NOW HIRING – Hospitality and Events Assistant

The Hospitality and Events Assistant is responsible for assisting the Events Development Coordinator with the scheduling, planning and execution of events on behalf of the Town of St. Stephen, including but not limited to, regular Town events and festivals as well as all events held within the Garcelon Civic Center. The Hospitality and Events Assistant is also responsible for assisting the Events Development Coordinator with the general accounting associated with the department, including the canteens at the Garcelon Civic Center, and with supervising student event staff during events within the Town of St. Stephen and the Garcelon Civic Center. This person will provide hospitable service to guests and patrons at all times.


Flexible hours of work required including days, evenings, and weekends.


The preferred qualifications include:

  • Diploma in business administration and/or hospitality or a minimum of Grade 12 and 3 years of hospitality experience, including administrative and supervisor duties.
  • Computer literacy – competence with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Word-Press, etc.).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to a variety of work situations
  • Effective communication verbally and in writing
  • Effective time management to prioritize, to manage multiple demands, meet deadlines, and respond calmly to challenging situations.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clear criminal record check.


An emphasis will be given to individuals who also have:

  • Previous experience with inventory purchasing and control.
  • Previous experience in customer service, hospitality, or event planning
  • Previous experience with bookkeeping.

Director, Community Services

The Director, reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, participates as a member of the Senior Management Team and is responsible for the planning, development, general/financial management and leadership of the Department of Community Services – comprising of parks, recreation and cultural programming, facilities planning, construction, maintenance and operations, Garcelon Civic Center, and festivals and events management. He/she will work with a skilled municipal team, Council, and community volunteers to deliver innovative, consistent and high quality customer service, community engagement and resource management.

As the ideal candidate, you are a highly effective communicator and collaborative leader with demonstrated ability to inspire and strengthen a diverse, talented team of professionals. Along with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or leisure studies, Public or Business Administration, Marketing or related discipline, you have at least three (3) years of successful experience at a senior management level in at least two (2) of the following service areas: Administration, Aquatics, Arenas, Event Centre, Community and Recreational Programming; ideally with experience in a unionized setting. You have a thorough working knowledge of community recreation and program assessment and development, as well as applicable legislative/ regulatory standards, and local government functions/responsibilities.

You have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, enabling you to lead your team to deliver on a complex variety of projects and work. Your analytical skills, combined with your financial acumen and written communication skills enable you to prepare detailed reports and budgets for Council. Using your strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, you deal effectively with all levels of staff and government, elected officials, consultants, developers, contractors, the general public, and community organizations. Using your experience in project-management, and strategic planning, you strengthen the department’s ability to deliver on municipal priorities and objectives. You are known for your leadership skills, with high performance standards, and a fair, supportive and developmental approach with employees.
